The basic facts are that China, as a developing country, is doing much more than many other countries to tackle climate change. This includes:
· Ratifying the Kyoto Protocol.
· A plan for energy intensity to drop by 20% by 2010 from 2005 levels.
· Legislating a 16% renewable energy target by 2020. The Renewable
Energy Promotion Law is the first of its kind in Asia.
· Hosting almost 700 CDM projects that will reduce emissions by 1.14
billion tonnes – double Australia’s total emissions.
· Fuel efficiency standards more stringent than those in Australia,
Canada, California and the United States.
