In 1993, these Environmental Guidelines for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, developed by Greenpeace, were passed into law by the NSW Government.

Greenpeace continued to play a vital watchdog role for the next seven years. In 2000, a new set of Environmental Guidelines was published, based on learnings from the Sydney Olympics.
