Thanks to everyone who took part in this action, which is now over. Almost 10,000 people contacted Japanese sister cities through their local councils.

Your efforts have directly helped our campaign to build domestic opposition to whaling in Japan.

So far we've had 20 councils communicate our “We love Japan, but whaling breaks our hearts” message via an official council resolution, letter or making representations at official meetings to their Japanese sister city.

These councils are: Blue Mountains, Gold Coast, Maroochydore, Snowy River, Bunbery, Hervey Bay, Mitchell, Sydney, Bundaberg, Lake Macquarie, Port Macquarie/Hastings, Toowoomba, Coffs Harbour, Latrobe, Port Stephens, Warrnambool, Frankston, Lismore, Rockhampton and Willoughby.

Unfortunately, the whales still aren’t safe due to the latest International Whaling Commission meeting results.

Although pro-whaling countries failed to overturn the global ban on commercial whaling, the Japanese whaling fleet will again hunt over 1,000 whales in the Southern Ocean this year – including 50 threatened humpbacks and 50 endangered fin whales.
