A First Nation prophecy says the peoples of the world will unite as Warriors of the Rainbow to save the planet from destruction by greed and careless exploitation.
Greenpeace was inspired by this to name the flagship of its fleet the Rainbow Warrior. This fall as part of celebrating its 40th anniversary, Greenpeace will launch its newest vessel: the Rainbow Warrior III.
On September 15th, the day Greenpeace was founded, the Mayor of Vancouver will issue a proclamation declaring the day “Greenpeace Day.” The international executive director of Greenpeace, Kumi Naidoo, will accept the honour.
Come celebrate Greenpeace's efforts to protect our environment on September 17th, at the Rainbow Warrior Festival. Taking place from 11Am to 6pm at Jericho Beach, Vancouver, the free festival will include:
Greenpeace stands out in its willingness to peacefully stand-up to environmentally damaging activities. The Action Zone will give a taste of how we take part in civil disobedience and how we bring attention to environmental crimes. Action zone activities will include:
- Climb training
- Civil disobedience workshop
- Banner making
- Zodiac tours
The festival will incorporate a kids zone to entertain Greenpeace's youngest supporters with:
- Story Telling
- Face Painting
- Kids Banner Making
As a campaigning organization, Greenpeace supports its work with up-to-date science to determine the most pressing threats to the global environment. Our campaign zone will provide information about our campaigns, past and future, and allow attendees to take action.
