Greenpeace Canada Green Tissue Guide LogoLooks like you found your sneak peak at Greenpeace Canada’s Green Tissue Guide App. Before we launch we want your feedback.

On average, over 2 million acres is logged in Canada’s Boreal Forest every year. Deforestation in Canada is threatening the habitat of precious wildlife like the Woodland Caribou and the wolverine and destroying one of the world’s most valuable ecosystems. Logging in the Indonesia rainforests has caused Sumatran tiger populations to dwindle to less than 400 left in the world. Without a second thought, we flush and toss away our tissues, napkins, paper towels and toilet paper. We are literally trashing our forests.

Some paper product companies are trying to change that and we want to support their efforts. And we need your help to do that.

We’ve developed the Green Tissue Guide App available for Android devices which is an independent guide to help you find the most forest-friendly tissue products when you go shopping. With this easy to use app you can help reduce deforestation.

Here’s how it works: The app has a large catalogue of tissue products available in Canada. Equipped with a simple rating system, the application helps you determine which products are a responsible choice for the environment and which ones to avoid.

Try it out and let us know what you think. Download it onto your device right here. Send your feedback to . Keep your eyes open for the official release with an IOS version in early 2013!

Green means go!

With a swipe of a finger you can see whether your tissue product is a smart choice with the easy colour rating system.

Green:  Made from 100% recycled paper fibre. The best option for the environment.

Amber: Less than 100% recycled but Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. FSC guarantees responsible forest management. A smart choice when recycled products are not available.

Red: Contains no recycled fibre and likely comes from destructive logging operations. Avoid these products.
