Today we're asking you to join us in taking action against Enbridge.  Greenpeace volunteers are currently locked down at the Enbridge offices in Vancouver, and we're asking supporters to write to Enbridge CEO Pat Daniel and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

It's important to send a clear message declaring our opposition to this dangerous energy project.  But if we want to completely remove the threat of a spill on B.C.'s shores, we're going to have to examine our oil-addicted lifestyle.

Before you tune out, take note: this is easy.  And it can save you money.

If your home, for example, is heated by gas, you can conserve energy by taking the following steps:

1) Set your water temperature to 50ºC, unless you really need boiling water on demand.

2) Show your water heater some love, and get it an insulated blanket.  Cheap and effective in conserving gas.

3) If it's time to replace your heater, opt for a solar hot water heater or on-demand water heater, they're much more energy efficient.

4) Next winter, turn down your thermostat a degree or two to save on your heating costs!

5) Finally, if you're an Enbridge customer, take a moment to engage in some peaceful direct action from (almost) the comfort of your home.  Take two sticky notes and write a message to Enbridge: "Dear Enbridge,  I demand that you cancel the Northern Gateway tar sands oil pipeline project.  We don't want more  oil tanker traffic on B.C.'s coast, endangering the Great Bear Rainforest."  Send one copy of this message to Enbridge with your next bill payment.  And stick the other copy on your gas meter.
