1] How long have you been volunteering for Greenpeace and why did you choose Greenpeace as a place to offer you time and energy?

I've been volunteering for Greenpeace for about 15 years now.  I did a lot of other volunteer work for other political groups in the past and this is how I started with Greenpeace.  I was volunteering for City Councilor Peter Tabuns at the time, and when  he moved on to be the ED of Greenpeace Canada, he encouraged me to volunteer!

2] In general, what motivates you in your volunteerism?

Originally I was a freelancer, so I had a lot of time.  But really for me, I have always volunteered, ever since I was a child.  It’s a way of life for me.  If I see a need and I believe in the cause, and I have the time - I do it! It’s normal for me.

3] Do you have a most memorable moment, activity or project at Greenpeace?

I really don’t have one memorable moment, as much of the work I do with Greenpeace is very down to earth as I work in the office. I’m not in the front line often, yet I really enjoy meeting the public and speaking to people about the issues.  When there are activities and demonstrations, I try to go as often as I can.

4] Do you have an inspirational message that you want to share with other environmental activists like yourself?

I don’t talk about my volunteer work that much to other people.  My daughter works in environmental policy, but I’m not sure if I motivated her?  I think Greenpeace is a very valuable organization, as they are not subsidized by anybody.  For older people – if you have the spare time, there’s nothing more rewarding than volunteering.  It really helps organizations that need it, who might not be able to survive without their volunteers.

I LOVE Greenpeace because of the people and the staffers. I love the spirit of Greenpeace  … and it’s such a mix of people ….
