02 September 2010 - Gulf of Mexico. Fire boats spray water as smoke pours from a fire on the Vermilion 380 production platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The United States Coast Guard and Houston-based Mariner Energy, owner of the platform, said all 13 people aboard at the time of the morning fire had been rescued with no injuries. The Vermilion platform, some 80 miles south of Louisiana's Vermilion Bay, is a permanent rig that operates in 340 feet of water. Read more
