(LEFT) Galina Miroshnichenko (age 34) has thyroid cancer. Since the Chernobyl disaster, the number of people diagnosed with thyroid cancer has increased dramatically in the Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, especially amongst women.
(RIGHT) Ms. Oga and her husband were long time residents and farmers from the village of Okuma Machi, around 7.5 kilometres from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. They had just finished moving in to their newly built house when the disaster struck. They now live in a small apartment in Aizu, far from their original home.
