19 October 2017 (Toronto) - In response to the motion introduced by the Conservatives asking the House to support the forestry sector while attacking Greenpeace and other environmental non-governmental organizations, Shane Moffatt, head of the Forest campaign at Greenpeace Canada said:

“The Conservatives are using the same Harper-era scapegoating tactics against ENGOs advocating for a sustainable forest industry in order to distract from the real issues at stake. But Canadians understand that a healthy environment supports a healthy economy.

Just yesterday, major business leaders communicated to provincial governments that stronger forest protections will meet marketplace demand for sustainable forest products. Greenpeace is deeply committed to long-term solutions that support local communities and create forest jobs for generations to come.”
