Feature story - March 25, 2009
With only one week left to fulfill the promise to protect the Great Bear Rainforest, Greenpeace has released an ad in newspapers across the metropolitan Vancouver area of British Columbia to remind Premier Campbell that while he is almost there, it’s not quite time to rest.
Premier Campbell: You have promises to keep and miles to go before you sleep
The ad, which ran in the Vancouver Courier, Burnaby Now and
Coquitlam Now, features an image of a Spirit Bear in the Great Bear
Rainforest and a photo of Premier Campbell, with an excerpt of
acclaimed poet Robert Frost's poem "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy
Evening" that reads: "The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I
have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep…"
These wise words serve as a reminder to the Premier and his
government of the important promises they made to B.C., to Canada,
and to a watching world on February 7, 2006. The Premier showed
great leadership that day, protecting the Great Bear Rainforest,
its rare ecosystems, thousand-year-old trees and precious wildlife.
The deadline for making those promises a reality is March 31,
2009.
Since that promise was made three years ago, much progress has
been made. But with only a week to go, the B.C. government has more
work to do. To make Canada's largest and most comprehensive
rainforest conservation plan a reality, the Premier and his
government must finish what they started.
Our message to the Premier is this: You do have promises to
keep. But we're almost there. For the sake of the Great Bear
Rainforest and the rare white spirit bears and thousand-year-old
trees that call it home, just a few more miles.
Join the call to preserve the Great Bear Rainforest for generations
to come

With your continued support, we can ensure that all commitments
set in the Great Bear Rainforest are reached by the March 31, 2009
deadline.
Please take a minute to email Premier
Campbell and remind him that a promise is a promise, and the
final countdown is on for his government to make their promise a
reality by the March 31, 2009 deadline.
