The Canadian Parliament is currently debating legislation that
could help turn Canada into a leader in dealing with global
warming, the most serious threat facing our planet today.
If passed, the Climate Change Accountability Act (Bill C-311)
would help prevent dangerous climate change by ensuring "that
Canada contributes fully to the stabilization of greenhouse gas
concentrations in the atmosphere."
Canada would be committed to taking the climate action called
for by our KYOTOplus campaign: reduce emissions of greenhouse gases
at least 25 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020, and by 80 per cent
by 2050. These science-based targets are essential to avoid the
most devastating impacts of climate change.
Bill C-311 is with the Standing Committee on Environment and
Sustainable Development for further debate and will eventually be
brought back to the House for a final vote.
