Other countries use geothermal energy extensively, but not Canada.
The Philippines and the US have the largest installed geothermal
generating capacities in the world. Italy, Indonesia, Japan,
Mexico, New Zealand and China all make extensive use of geothermal
resources as well.
In Canada, and in British Columbia in particular, there is an
abundance geothermal energy, but much of it remains untapped. Most
geothermal energy in Canada today is in small units and is used to
heat building or private homes. Test projects in British Columbia
and across the country have suggested that there is larger scale
potential.
