There is no need to produce more energy when so much can be saved by greater efficiency.
Energy efficiency has enormous potential to reduce energy
consumption and fight global warming. Energy efficiency can take
many forms from energy efficient appliances to well insulated
houses. Some examples of energy efficiency include:
- Energy efficient appliances. In Canada, the '
Energy Star' symbol is a good indication that an appliance is
energy efficient.
- Energy efficient building. There's a lot you can do to
increase your energy efficiency and cut down on your heating bills
at the same time. Simple steps like putting additional insulation
in your roof and using super-insulated glazing for windows can make
a real difference. The federal government has
more information about how you can make your home more energy
efficient.
Greenpeace is demanding national efficiency standards in Canada
for industry, new appliances and new building projects.
Retrofitting is also an important component of any national or
provincial energy efficiency plan. Retrofitting means renovating
existing buildings to make them more energy efficient.

information from the federal government about current retrofitting
programs and incentives.
