KYOTOplus is a petition-based campaign to pressure the federal government for real action on global warming.
Greenpeace and 30 other public interest groups are asking Canadians to sign the KYOTOplus petition to build the pressure needed to get action.
KYOTOplus calls for Canada to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at least 25 per cent (from 1990 levels) by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050. These targets are science-based and reflect the recommendations of the international scientists of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
KYOTOplus is about turning past failure Canadian greenhouse gas emissions in 2006 were about 22 per cent above the 1990 total of 592 million tonnes. This is about 29 per cent above Canada’s Kyoto target of 558 million tonnes (6 per cent below the 1990 level).
