Sustainable seafood policies and labeling
Metro does not have a sustainable seafood policy and apparently has no plans to create one.
Metro has said publicly that it will improve its seafood labeling but has not set a deadline or a timeline for this.
Kudos
- Has said country of origin labelling on seafood will be improved.
- Provides some information about seafood it sells in Canada through a book available at seafood counters in some stores.
Criticism
- No apparent intention to create a sustainable seafood policy and has not responded to multiple inquiries from Greenpeace on the issue.
- No specifications or deadline relating to their commitment to improve labelling have been provided.
- Continues to sell almost all Redlist species and refuses to take any action for the oceans.
