Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth-USA have filed suit against the U.S. Federal government forcontributing to the chain of destruction created by carbon dioxide and climate change. The financing offossil fuel extraction and transportation in developing countries by the U.S. Federal Export-Import Bankand the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, for the U.S.’ profligate energy consumption, has addedto the changes in the atmosphere that cause global warming. We contend that it also constitutes a violationof the National Environmental Policy Act, because it does not account for these impacts. Some examples, from the experience of a representative sample of our members, are described in this factsheet.
