Greenpeace’s 2009 Supermarket Ranking evaluates Canada’s eight major supermarkets on their progress in providing Canadians with seafood that is sustainably caught and farmed. Efforts are being made by some retailers but others are ignoring their responsibilities, selling our oceans and themselves out of stock.

Energy [R]evolution: A sustainable Canada energy outlook

Energy [R]evolution is a groundbreaking report that shows how Canada can cut global warming pollution to the levels needed to prevent the worst effects of global warming while also meeting the energy needs of a growing world and phasing out nuclear power.

There is overwhelming consensus that global warming is an unequivocal, scientifically proven reality that is caused largely by burning fossil fuels. Climate scientists have said global greenhouse gas emissions must peak by 2015 and then decrease rapidly after that.

The report outlines how Canada can use available technology to cut the greenhouse gas emissions from its energy sector 34 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050.

Greenpeace and the European Renewable Energy Council commissioned the report from the German Aerospace Center.

Green Jobs: It’s time to build Alberta’s future

The report, Green Jobs: It’s time to build Alberta’s future, was commissioned by Greenpeace, Sierra Club Prairie and the Alberta Federation of Labour and outlines a strategy for creating green jobs in Alberta.

Environmental problems are increasingly seen as challenges to be overcome, and as opportunities to create good jobs cleaning up the environment.

The report demonstrates that the days are numbered for the myth of jobs vs the environment. The emerging cooperation between labour and environmental groups is creating a new way to see the environment and the economy. About 20,000 new, green jobs could be created in Alberta this year and 200,000 jobs could be created over time through the strategy in the Green Jobs report.
