Toronto, Canada — Greenpeace Canada was awarded “Best Green Group” honours by NOW Magazine, in their annual “Best of Toronto” issue this week. Recent “kick-ass stunts” by Greenpeace campaigners against nuclear power, climate change and Boreal Forest destruction received top mention in the Toronto weekly.

“We’re thrilled to be recognized for all the hard work and dedication shown by our activists and many supporters,” said Spencer Tripp, Greenpeace Canada’s communications director. “NOW Magazine and its readers understand that status-quo environmentalism just isn’t enough; sometimes you have to put yourself on the line to make people stand up and notice.”

Greenpeace is also campaigning to stop the environmental destruction caused by Alberta’s tar sands, pressuring governments to introduce mandatory labelling of genetically engineered foods and demanding grocery stores stop selling endangered fish.

An independently funded organization operating in more than 40 countries around the world with over 2.8 million members, Greenpeace has fought to protect the environment for over 36 years.
