More than 80 boats and thousands of citizens gathered in Vancouver’s Stanley
Park on October 17 to rally against oil tanker traffic on B.C. coast. They called
on the federal government to enact a legislated oil tanker ban along the coast of
B.C. and to stop any further expansion of Kinder Morgan’s oil tanker traffic.
On the same day, more people rallied in Edmonton and Toronto with the same message.
Organized with our partners No Tanks! and Wilderness Committee, Vancouver’s rally and flotilla gave the 80 per cent of British Columbians who oppose oil tankers on our west coast a platform to come together and have their voices heard in an otherwise hush-hush process that has seen Vancouver slowly being converted into a tar sands port with almost no public consultation.
