Fame Drain, Toxic Relationships & more!

Feature story - December 5, 2011
Greenpeace’s GP In Touch uses humour and a little star power to bring home a big point. Fact is, the ridiculously cozy relationship between our publicly elected officials and the private oil industry is a scandal worthy of the trashiest gossip rags.

With headlines like “Tar Sands Drive Away Canadian Talent,”  “Canada: On the Road to Ruins” and “Oily Tweets” – you won’t want to miss out!

There is much to be ashamed of when it comes to the tar sands. The tar sands industry is arguably the dirtiest energy project on earth. They are Canada's fastest growing source of carbon emissions and have got us wiping out pristine forests and wetlands, contaminating rivers and air, and completely disregarding the health and rights of First Nations communities. It's totally the wrong way to go in a world that needs to make a win on the most urgent issue of our time – climate change!

Greenpeace’s mock tabloid is filled with satire and hilarious images, but the way the Harper government listens to polluters in the tar sands and not the people is no laughing matter.

So check out this issue of GP In Touch and get the latest scoop on Canada and the toxic tar sands industry – be sure to hover over the different sections to find hidden links to even more scandalous stories to share with your friends!

Don’t worry. Canada’s biggest stars aren't really leaving the country…but with the beating our reputation has taken on the international stage, you just never know!

Right now, at the UN climate negotiations in Durban, South Africa, the Harper government is letting Canadians and the rest of the world down by promoting dirty tar sands to a world market that is moving beyond oil. In addition to failing to meet its Kyoto Protocol commitments and opposing an extension of the agreement, Canada now threatens to pull out of Kyoto altogether.

Canada, what’s with the destructive behavior? It’s time to become a part of the solution to the climate crisis and draw the line at the tar sands!
