Greenpeace Climate and Energy Coordinator Dave Martin stood on a chair and held up a banner reading “Stop Global Warming: Support KYOTOplus” during Harper’s speech before being led away by police.

"Global warming is the crisis of our generation. If we don't act now, the impacts will be catastrophic," said Martin "This election will determine whether Canada supports a strengthened extension of the Kyoto Protocol through to 2020, or whether our children will be left to suffer the consequences of our inaction."

Greenpeace says if voters care about the environment, they should vote for anyone but Harper. All four opposition parties are supporting support the KYOTOplus target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 25 per cent from 1990 levels by 2020. Only Prime Minister Harper and the Conservative Party has refused to sign.

Martin and Volunteer Program Coordinator Angela Woodcock were held briefly and released without charge after Prime Minister Harper departed.
