Ask John Baird to bring home Paul Ruzycki and Alexandre Paul.

As Minister of Foreign Affairs, John Baird can play a crucial role to bring Paul and Alexandre back to Canada for good. The Canadian government was instrumental in securing the safe release of Canadians John Greyson and Tarek Loubani when they were illegally imprisoned in Egypt. We are calling for the same level of action to secure the safe release of Paul Ruzycki and Alexandre Paul.

Who are the Arctic 30?

28 activists, a freelance photographer and a freelance videographer were involved in a protest against the Gazprom Arctic drilling platform Prirazlomnaya in international waters north of Russia on September 18th. Two of the activists tried to climb the side of the platform to hang a banner as part of a peaceful protest against Arctic oil drilling. One day later, Russian security services descended from a helicopter onto the deck of the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise, illegally seized the ship at gunpoint in international waters and detained the entire crew.

The Arctic 30 were arrested and held in pre-trial detention for over two months. Currently, all but one, Colin Russell, have been released on bail. Colin Russell was refused bail, and instead given three more months of detention. He and all of the Arctic 30 still face serious charges and could spend years in prison if convicted for a crime they did not commit.
