Tell Stephen Harper: Nuclear Polluters Must Pay

Two years after the Fukishima nuclear accident many made homeless by that accident still live in shelters.

None of them have received enough compensation to rebuild their lives.

This is because an unfair law allows nuclear companies to ignore their responsibility to pay decent compensation to accident victims.

This law encourages companies to take risks with people’s lives and walk away from an accident without paying any of the costs.

This unfair, federal law protects the nuclear industry in Canada too.

So, if there is a nuclear accident at the other end of the country it's all taxpayers – not the nuclear companies - who pick up the tab.

This is law is wrong. It must change. Please sign this petition which we will present to the Harper government.

The costs of Fukushima are being paid by the Japanese people themselves, as taxpayers they are footing the bill for this nuclear disaster.

Protecting people should be the first priority and if the nuclear polluters must pay for their pollution. Tell Stephen Harper you agree.

Yes! I agree that all nuclear companies should pay for the full damage their reactors cause. The Canadian law which shields the nuclear industry must be changed.

The Fukushima disaster is not over. The estimated costs of damages already exceeds US$250 billion, and it will grow. But the companies who profited from designing and servicing the Fukushima nuclear power plant - including General Electric, Hitachi and Toshiba - have not taken responsibility.

Protecting people and the environment should be the first priority for the laws and rules governing nuclear power and must be changed to ensure that nuclear operators and nuclear suppliers pay the full costs of a nuclear disaster.

It’s time for nuclear companies like General Electric, Hitachi and Toshiba to take responsibility and pay for their nuclear failures!
