Annual Report 2008

October 27, 2009

This October, the Chinese government celebrated 60 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. While it’s been 60 years since the declaration of the PRC, Greenpeace China has only been working in the mainland a mere seven years. Even so, this organisation has fought day by day to heal China’s damaged environment and now, just seven years later, Greenpeace China’s operations in the mainland now boasts a staff of over 50, an office buzzing with enthusiastic environmentalists and all backed by your invaluable support.

Year 2007

October 10, 2008

Greenpeace China grew into one of the organisation’s largest global offices both in terms of staff numbers and in the volume of ongoing projects last year. We now have 77 full-time employees spread over our Hong Kong, Beijing and Guangzhou offices as well as temporary staff hired for individual projects. We also have another 20 to 30 canvassers on the streets of Hong Kong informing passers-by about our campaigns, explaining how to get involved and encouraging them to join Greenpeace.

Year 2004

July 22, 2005

2004 was a landmark year for Greenpeace China. The Greenpeace International organisation designated Greenpeace China a global priority office, with the goal of helping China develop along a green and healthy path. We also greatly expanded our campaign works in China. China needs a global non-governmental environment organisation, like Greenpeace, to monitor and stop irresponsible corporations from destroying our environment for profit.

2003 was a milestone of our environmental work in Mainland China. We established operations in Beijing and Guangzhou, which help us understand the realities of domestic environmental problems and international links. In addition, we have begun to build up a good relationship with the Chinese government, and have been working with authorities on domestic environmental law and policies.

Year 2002

July 21, 2006

2002 was a challenging year for Greenpeace. In mainland China, we have built up a solid network of local communities, scientists and volunteers. We also published reports and research information about genetically engineered food and ecological agriculture and provided these to the Chinese government. With these positives bases, we are confident that we can spread our full swings to the region in the coming years.
