Sign up to become part of the Greenpeace Air Quality Patrol. Download the Real Air Pollution Index and check pollution levels in your district. Now you can find out the true quality of the air you breathe.

Since it was devised in 1987, the Hong Kong government’s Air Quality Objective (AQO) has neither been reviewed nor updated to match World Health Organization standards. The AQO is used as the guideline for city planning, environmental impact assessments and is the basis of the published “Air Pollution Index”. Only when the government revises the AQO can air quality improvement measures be brought up to date so that we have a chance at cleaning up Hong Kong’s polluted air.

The government’s review of the AQO is due to be released at the end of the year. We need your support to persuade the government to bring the AQO up to WHO standards. Sign up now and become part of The Air Quality Patrol!

About the Real Air Pollution Index
Every day the government releases its “Air Pollution Index” (API) which is based upon an outdated standard called the “Air Quality Objective” (AQO). The AQO is not as stringent as World Health Organization air quality standards and the API does not accurately reflect the quality of the air we breathe. Only a Real Air Pollution Index, which measures concentrations of air pollutants according to World Health Organization standards, reveals the true air quality.
Use it!
Pick a district and the widget will show you how many air pollutants are over WHO standards. If the compass points to 2, it means two air pollutants have exceeded WHO standards. Click on the numbers to find out more information about health risks from air pollution and data from individual monitoring stations.
