GE labelling in mainland China

A small number of products including tomatoes, rapeseed and soya bean products must be clearly labelled if they are genetically engineered.

But the rest, processed food and drinks containing GE ingredients for example, do not have to carry labelling.

GE labelling in Hong Kong

There is no mandatory labelling of GE in Hong Kong which means shoppers have no idea if they are eating GE food or not.

It also means that as consumers Hong Kong residents cannot make an informed decision if they want to eat GE or not.

Shopper's Guide to Avoiding GE Food

Between August and December 2007, Greenpeace sent enquiry letters to over 250 food producers and distributors regarding their GE policies and if their food products contain GE ingredients.

This Shoppers’ Guide was compiled based on the responses from these food producers and distributors. This guide includes over 600 common brands available in supermarkets.

Please download the guide here (pdf).
