Obama: be a climate leader

More than 31,000 Chinese netizens signed up to our campaign calling on Obama to be climate leader.

Each petitioner helped unveil a small square of the underlying picture of a Chinese traditional papercut of President Obama with the words 'Be a climate leader' in English and Chinese.

Greenpeace China climate and energy campaign manager Yang Ailun delivered a beautifully-framed copy of the papercut to the US embassy in Beijing.

While our team in Hong Kong hung a fake Time magazine cover, also calling on Obama, outside the US consulate there. See picture on right.

Why Obama?

Because when governments meet in just three weeks in Copenhagen for a crucial UN climate conference, the US is a key country.

Climate change is global problem and it needs a global solution.

But Obama's progress on climate change has been more than disappointing.

Industrial countries need to rein in carbon emissions by at least 25% by 2020 over 1990 levels.

So far, the best Obama has put on the table is a paltry 4 to 7%.

The world needs leadership from Obama if it is stop climate change.

President Obama. Be a climate leader.

It's that simple.
