Greenpeace Brings 7,000 Signatures to Environment Bureau, Demand CO2 Caps on Power Plants

Two Greenpeace activists dressed up in eyeball costume today bring 7,000 signatures collected earlier to the Environment Bureau and covered the EB door with “surveillance eyes”. The act is to present public voices to urge the Bureau to cap carbon dioxide from power plants in the recent Air Pollution Control Ordinance (APCO) amendment and as a move against climate change.

60% of Food Brands Refused Non-GE Committment

Greenpeace launches the latest “Shoppers’ Guide to Avoiding GE Food 2008”. Amongst nearly 600 common food brands in the market, only around 40% pledged not to use GE ingredients. In the categories of chips and biscuits, even a lower record of 20% has committed. The government’s delaying policy to implementing a mandatory labelling system is causing Hong Kong citizens to consume GE food unwittingly.

APCO Amendment Goes against Public Opinion to Cap Power Plants CO2, says Greenpeace Survey

While the Hong Kong Observatory warns that winter will disappear in two decades, the government shows no sign to cap carbon dioxide emissions from power plants in its latest amendment to the Air Pollution Control Ordinance (APCO). Yet a Greenpeace survey shows that 70% of interviewees believe it is urgent for the authority to tackle climate change, while more than 80% support regulation to carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.
