Whatever our differences, we both need to combat climate change

The US and China are strikingly different: they have different languages, different cultural practices, different political systems. But they both face the same climate change threat and they must solve that together.

The reality of climate catastrophe is here and the countdown for commitment has begun. China and the US, the world's two biggest greenhouse gas emitters, have a precious chance to show the world they can lead an international effort to rescue our planet from climate change disaster at the United Nations climate summit in Copenhagen this December. This is our appeal to the leaders of these two powerful nations: work together and lead the way in securing the strongest, most effective agreement to stop climate change now
