To support the campaign, Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen will walk from Government House to Government Headquarters, a 500m-long distance. Greenpeace Campaigner Prentice Koo says, "It's his first step towards tackling climate change. We demand the Chief Executive to pledge delivering a climate change policy before the Copenhagen Conference."
As of September 21st, 54 organizations, 4 universities and 11 schools have pledged to support 9.22 Carfree Day. The President of Hong Kong University will switch from private car to walking; managerial staff of the Airport Authority will also use public transport to their offices in Lantau; Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation will arrange subtle buses for tenants; a bar in Causeway Bay will offer half price beer to echo the Car Free Day.
