PURPOSE OF POSITION:  

The Web Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the development of effective communications strategies through online channels, in order to engage the public with Greenpeace activities, win Greenpeace campaigns and build up public support for the organization.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


1.Management: Lead, motivate and manage Web Unit in line with the organizational aims and objectives in order to ensure the effective performance of the Web Unit and ensure staff development, training and performance reviews take place.

2.Manage Budget: Develop, monitor and authorize expenditure of the Web Unit budget, according to agreed objectives and the priorities of the Unit, in order to ensure cost effectiveness and strategic expenditure.

3.Online Strategy: Develop, initiate and oversee the implementation of effective and innovative online communications, marketing and public engagement strategies in line with Greenpeace strategic direction.

4.Greenpeace websites and online tools: Ensure and oversee that Greenpeace websites and online tools are operating in line with the best web practices in terms of style, content, usability and public engagement, in order to gain public support for Greenpeace.

5.Work with campaign and fundraising: Provide strategic advice to campaign and fundraising departments on how to use online communications channels to meet their objectives, and to ensure the Web Unit executes agreed plan.

6.Policy: Develop internal procedures and protocols, editorial policies, and style guidelines, in order to ensure consistency and accuracy in communication content and presentation, and to ensure efficient operation of the Web Unit.

7.Editorial: Provide direct editorial input into online communications output and take final editorial decisions to enable consistency, accuracy, quality and effectiveness of external Greenpeace communications.

8.Online communications trends: Oversee and ensure that Greenpeace operates in parallel with on-going developments within the new media industry in China and globally.

9.External relationship: Oversee the building of external relationship with key online media in China and globally.

10.System and tools: Oversee and ensure that effective system, technical infrastructure and useful tools for online communications are in place, maintained and used, including server, scheduling system, members database, web monitoring and analysis etc.

11.Liaison with Greenpeace offices: Take leadership in liaising and working together with counterparts in Greenpeace International and other Greenpeace offices.

12.Perform other duties as designated by the line manager.

Possesses knowledge and experience in the use of different web tools for outreaching people.

Possesses skills to help community members to outreach other people in digital world. Actively finding new and more effective ways to work together with other people using online tools.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

3.Expertise: Thorough understanding of the specialized field, including the nature of the communications medium, target audience, how the industry operate, tools, styles and technical aspects.

4.Planning and organization: Able to think ahead in order to establish efficient and appropriate course of action for self and others. Prioritizes and plans activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources.

6.Managing relationships and team working: Able to build and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.

Skills required / qualifications

Required:
1.Bachelor Degree or above

2.At least 5 years experience in new media or other related communications industry, including 2 years of management experience.

3.Proven track record of experience in a wide range of digital marketing and web usability skills and technologies.

4.Excellent knowledge of internet culture and close familiarity with the tools and landscape of the online world.

5.Project management and resource planning experience.

6.Excellent communication and presentation skills.

7.Excellent written and spoken Chinese; fluent written and spoken English.

8.Creativity and ability to think out of the box and chase new opportunities

9.Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and to meet tight deadlines, including a flexible mindset regarding working hours

Helpful:
1.Knowledge and experience of web design, HTML, CSS, Javascript, RSS, and other relevant web technologies

2.Experience in creative writing and editing

3.Experience in one or more major web analytics packages

4.Relevant experience in environmental studies or environmental activism.
