Forest fight from the top of a crane
Four of our activists hoisted themselves up the crane of a ship that was loaded with illegally-logged rainforest timber in Papua New Guinea. They hung there for more than 55 hours to stop the ship taking off with its illegal cargo and to protest criminal deforestation. The logs were bound for China, the largest market for Papua New Guinean timber.

Cruising for the climate Cruising for the climate
Papua New Guinea was the first stop on Greenpeace ship, the Esperanza’s, “Forests for Climate” tour. Our crew is sailing through the region of the Paradise Forests
showing how deforestation contributes to climate change.

Greenpeace China Forests Campaigner Yilan is on board. Her blog is full of exciting photos and videos from the trip, highlighting the connection between China and the destruction of the Paradise Forests. China is not only the largest importer of Papua New Guinean logs but also the biggest global buyer of Indonesian palm oil.
