Greenpeace notes that no regulatory framework has been developed to address the emerging issues
attached to nanotechnology. Based upon an evaluation of such technologies Greenpeace has
identified a number of potential hazards to human health and to the wider environment which could
be realized as a result of the development and use of nanotechnologies. Accordingly, Greenpeace has
developed the following policy to address the development of nanotechnologies and their onward
application. This policy is designed to prevent nanotechnological approaches undermining any
conditions necessary for sustainability. The policy statement is followed by the rationale by which
Greenpeace arrived at this position on nanotechnology.
