Gao Suzhen has set up a miniature temple ain her home, about five meters away from the fence of Jimei Dyeing Factory. She prays for her husband, Ding Deqing; a cargo ship runner in Hangzhou Harbor until he died of liver cancer 8 years ago. As the textile industry (in cities along the Hangzhou Harbour including Xiaoshan, Shaoxing, Ningbo and Jiaxing) has brought severe pollution and above average cancer rates. The medical bills of cancer treatment have also overburdened many peasant families. For those who can no longer afford proper treatment, spiritual reliance becomes the second best choice.
