Pesticides + herbal medicine makes no sense
Chinese herbs have traditionally been an elixir of health. But our recent investigation reveals that herbs are the latest victims of an unhealthy, pesticide-intensive agricultural system.
We tested 65 traditional Chinese herbal products and found a toxic cocktail of pesticide residues. Some of the pesticides detected are considered highly hazardous by the World Health Organization (WHO). Others have residue levels in such high concentration that they would be in breach of European food safety standards.
We followed up our investigation and found pesticides on herbal products bought in London, Virginia (near Washington DC), Paris, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Milan, Toronto and Vancouver.
Pesticides use is a global problem and it is about time to put an end to the chemical addiction of the industrial agriculture and move to ecological farming.
