Choose clean energy
Governments and other authorities must urgently promote renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies in order to confront our changing climate. Encouraging a shift to a truly sustainable energy future will allow us to take advantage of the multiple environmental, economic and social benefits that renewable energy sources have to offer. To this end, Greenpeace is campaigning for concrete and ambitious measures to advance renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
Greenpeace has shown that, with a dedicated renewable energy and energy efficiency strategy, by 2050 the European Union could:
- cover half of its energy use with renewable energy sources,
- phase out coal and nuclear power entirely,
- reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the energy sector by more than 70% compared to 1990 levels.
