Brussels, Belgium — Greenpeace criticised today’s conclusions by EU energy ministers on the Strategic Energy Review.
"Today's conclusions by energy ministers desperately lack focus. The so-called strategic energy review supports a contradictory muddle of energy technologies," said Frauke Thies, Greenpeace EU energy policy campaigner.
"Sustainable and self-sufficient energy supply can only be achieved with decentralised renewable energy production, efficiency and a flexible power system," said Thies.
Greenpeace points out that on one hand energy ministers support energy efficiency, renewable energy and a modern power network. But on the other hand they advocate continued support for coal-dependent technologies and nuclear power, hence perpetuating a centralised and unsustainable energy model.
