Greenpeace comment

Brussels – Commenting on the European Commission’s new plan to push for a five- or seven-year licence for the weedkiller glyphosate, Greenpeace EU food policy director Franziska Achterberg said:

“What matters is how much glyphosate is used and how it’s used, not how long the licence is for. The European Parliament and Europeans want a ban, not a fudge that changes nothing about how much people are exposed and how much the environment is contaminated.”

Over one million people signed a European citizen’s initiative calling for a glyphosate ban, while recent polling shows overwhelming support for a ban across Europe.
