Greenpeace activist Brikesh Singh has been invited to the CNN IBN Citizen Journalist (CJ) awards 2013. Citizen Journalist is an initiative by CNN IBN where viewers become reporters and armed with a camera they tell stories of injustice, courage or change. There are several categories of CJ videos and Brikesh Singh was featured on CNN IBN as a Green CJ.

In September 2012, Brikesh lived on a tree in the Chandrapur forest area in Maharashtra to protest against coal mining destroying forests in Central India. His month in the forest and protest against coal mining was aired on CNN IBN in five CJ episodes. He lived at the edge of the Tadoba Tiger Reserve to create more awareness about the need to save our forests and to help gather signatures on a petition asking the Prime Minister protect our forests.

It is vital to protect these forests because tigers, other wildlife and communities depend on them for their survival. Over 9,00,000 people have signed the petition till date and the fight to save our forests still continues.

The CNN IBN Citizen Journalist awards will be telecast on Saturday, 2nd March at 9:30 pm and on Sunday, 3rd March at 5:30 pm.
