Overall purpose

Use web publishing skills to develop and support a range of online initiatives (websites, applications, html emails etc.) that inspire people to support Greenpeace’s campaigns, and input into online campaign strategies.


Main responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operation and content management of our website on a .NET platform
  • Work with campaigners to build online plans, identify campaign moments and calls-to-action for mobilisation
  • Assist the Web team in building and sending html emails and setting up online forms
  • Create websites and microsites using HTML, CSS, PHP and scripting
  • Support the work of the Sr Web Developer
  • Think out-of the box and creatively to develop online applications/tools that are fun yet engage and inspire people to take action online to support our campaign demands or give us funds
  • Liaise with external service providers like Design agencies, mobile application developers, online advertising providers and other Greenpeace offices around the world to incorporate features/tools into our web projects/applications
  • Assist the web team to drive online traffic to websites/microsites using SEO, link building, SEM, online groups and social networks
  • Help develop applications for Facebook either internally or by outsourcing to a service provider
  • Undertake any other tasks assigned by your manager


Qualification and requirements

  • Web publishing skills including HTML, CSS, PHP and/or .NET and image editing
  • Experience using content management systems and other web publishing software
  • Knowledge of internet culture and close familiarity with the tools and landscape of the online world
  • Excellent written and spoken communications skills, especially English
  • Creativity and ability to think out of the box and chase new opportunities
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation techniques and link building.
  • Experience participating in online communities and campaigns
  • Experience working with Facebook applications and FBML

Planning and organising: Brain storm different ideas and applications which can help engage more people and increase response rates. Finalise on the idea, develop it and get make sure it runs smoothly on the web. Ensure that the website is functioning smoothly and take necessary steps in case of any problem. 

Analysis: Come up with ideas and applications which will help the campaign achieve its objective.

Innovation: Come up with new ideas to help create an effective online campaign strategy. Carry out tests to check what goes well with the online audience and increase response rates. Develop applications which will engage the online audience and make them take more action. 

Working with others: Interact with web teams from other Greenpeace NROs and to understand what works for them and get ideas to try things here. Work with different campaigns to understand the requirements and come up with web applications or mailing ideas accordingly.

The Web developer reports to Mobilisation manager.

The primary location for the role will be in Bengaluru.

Compensation:  5.5 lakhs per annum (non-negotiable)
