Even after the governments promise of 100 percent rural electrification, several villages in India still go without electricity.

Some villages however have seen light with the help of decentralised renewable energy (DRE) projects started by individuals or groups in their villages.

Here's a story about some of these DRE projects which have illuminated the lives of many.

India's energy demands are growing and growing fast, how does the government plan to meet it? While the cities complain about short power cuts, thousands of villages are yet to see electricity in the first place. The solution is giving power to the poor through decentralised renewable energy (DRE).
