The proposed Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India (BRAI) bill will ease the entry of genetically modified crops into our country. Our food will not be safe. The government has been very secretive about this bill and it can be tabled anytime in Parliament. So, when there was a possibility of the bill being tabled in the Monsoon session of Parliament, Greenpeace activists stood outside Parliament with the message, ‘Don’t corrupt our food’. They were detained by the police and released later. The bill is yet to be tabled.
