'Stop Coal Crimes' action in Hyderabad

Along with Greenpeace activists, actor and activist Amala Akkineni unfurled a banner from the balcony of the iconic Charminar, asking the Indian government to halt all new coal mining in forest areas if they were really serious about conserving biodiversity. The action took place just hours after Jayanthi Natarajan, Minster of the Environment and Forests, opened the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity in Hyderabad.

The forests in Central India are facing a severe threat from coal mining. Over 250,000 people have signed a petition asking the Prime Minister to protect these forests from coal mining.
