More than 350 people across India took part in peaceful protests as part of a day of solidarity around the world demanding the release of 28 Greenpeace activists and two freelance journalists who have been detained in Russia since September 18 for carrying out a peaceful protest against oil drilling in the Arctic at an oil platform owned by Gazprom. The activists were formally charged with piracy and could face upto 15 years in prison. On October 5, protests against the activist’s unjust detention took place on every continent, in more than 135 cities across 47 countries.
