Water for farmers first not coal fired power plants

Water meant to irrigate fields is being diverted to coal fired power plants on a massive scale in Maharashtra. On the morning of May 22, Greenpeace activist climbers unfurled a 250 foot banner on the Upper Wardha dam in Amravati, Maharashtra to garner attention to this issue. To support this campaign ask the CM of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan to return the water to the farmers. Click here.

The Upper Wardha dam in Amravati is considered to be a lifeline for surrounding cities and towns. But water resources in the state are quickly sliding away from those who need it the most and water meant for farmers is being diverted to coal fired power plants even from this dam.
