Support the forests

The Group of Ministers is going to meet in the next few days, to decide whether our forests should be cleared for coal mines. We have very little time to gather more support for the forests. More signatures on the petition will also help in convincing Mr Pranab Mukherjee that the people of this country want their forests to be safe.

Please add your signature asking Pranab Mukherjee to hold a public consultation before taking a decision.

Tigers at risk from coal mining

Last year environment and forest minister Jairam Ramesh marked certain dense forests as No Go zones for coal mining. The coal ministry however wants access to all these areas.

A Group of Ministers, headed by Pranab Mukherjee is now going to decide whether our forests are destroyed or not.

Forests are crucial to the livelihood of millions and are home to wildlife like tigers and elephants.

There are clean and viable renewable energy options which can minimize our dependence on coal. However, once destroyed a natural forest cannot be re-created.
