NEW DELHI, India — This Christmas, don’t be surprised if you catch yourself talking to a young Gen Next Santa instead of the usual portly grandfather-figure. As part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness about the risks of Genetically Engineered (GE) crops, Greenpeace is bringing ‘Green Santa’ to nine cities in India.

This Christmas, don't be surprised if you catch yourself talking
to a young Gen Next Santa instead of the usual portly
grandfather-figure. As part of an ongoing campaign to raise
awareness about the risks of Genetically Engineered (GE) crops,
Greenpeace is bringing 'Green Santa' to nine cities in India. All
through December, Green Santa will talk to people about the grave
dangers posed by GE crops, particularly GE Rice.
"With the festivity in the air, everyone's thoughts turn to fun,
food, and family life," says Brikesh Singh, one of the Green Santas
in New Delhi, "It's the perfect time to remind people that for most
of us in India, Rice is Life. GE Rice presents an immediate, grave
threat to our rice, so we're here to urge kids (and their parents)
to support the Greenpeace campaign against GE Rice."
You can spot Green Santa in prime locations in your city -
dressed in a Greenpeace jacket, with a trademark Santa Claus cap,
except in green. Walk up to Green Santa and lend your voice of
support. Join Green Santa to assert that Rice is Life and we will
not allow it to be contaminated.
Green Santa will wish you a Happy GE free New Year and hand you
an early Christmas gift to thank you for your support!
