BMW promise to deliver sheer driving pleasure. To them that means leather seats, fat tyres and big powerful cars. Twelve years ago BMW was part of a deal to bring average fleet emissions down to 140g by 2008/9. Twelve years later, and despite a pledge that "one of the main environmental aspects on which the BMW Group focuses is lowering fleet fuel consumption" they remain a long way from that goal despite purchasing the lower emission Mini brand.

BMW have made efforts to improve the manufacture and recyclability of their cars. They've also invested in what they call 'Efficient Dynamics' technology,  including engines that turn off at traffic lights and low resistance tyres. They claim to market over 50 models that emit less than 140 g CO2 / km but a quick glance at their fleet average makes it clear that while they may offer these the cars they're selling in numbers are very different.
