renault

The French 'Createur des automobiles' has worked hard to make itself synonymous with creativity, passion and innovation and is best known for the small urban Clio. Of course Renault make big cars too, and with cars like the Espace and Vel Satis they've been trying to convince us that what we need to get from A-B isn't really a car, it's a van that goes as fast as a sportscar. Creative - perhaps, useful - not really.

Yet Renault's creativity has led them to some good ideas. Their eco2 models must all emit less than 140g CO2/km and be highly reusable at the end of the lives. Crucially Renault have recognised that the most efficient ecological solutions are those most readily accessible to the highest number of people - suggesting that unlike most manufacturers they're interested in selling their eco models in large numbers. Surely from there it's a short step to recognising that all your cars should be environmentally friendly?
